ABOUT BLOOM

Bloom - verb - /bluːm/ come into or be in full beauty or health; flourish

Brisbane artists Kate Quinn and Emily Day are delighted to welcome you to Bloom.

The Bloom concept is simple - we offer bespoke art experiences, in unique and beautiful locations around Australia.

During a Bloom workshop, you will be guided by Kate and Emily to paint a simple floral still life over one fantastic day, in a relaxed and encouraging environment where group numbers are kept small. Kate and Emily will teach in their preferred mediums of acrylics and oils, and will provide creative guidance in a kind and supportive way. So if you are nervous about your artistic skills, there is no need to be worried about this class! We are both very passionate about exploring the process of painting and the joy it sparks and we want you to experience this too. Bloom workshops are suitable for beginners, as well as those with some hobby painting experience.

We are so fortunate to collaborate with fantastic hosts for each of our workshops, so at lunchtime we all put the brushes down to enjoy a delicious catered lunch, in a beautiful setting, with a glass of bubbles or two to help loosen your style for the afternoon! You will head home with new mates, new talents, a gorgeous goodie bag, and a beautiful still life, painted by you, to hang in your home.

If you would like to know more, please explore our website to see our upcoming event locations and details. You can also contact Kate or Emily directly or email us at bloom.art.experiences@gmail.com. We can't wait to welcome you to a Bloom workshop!

Alternatively, if you have a passion for hosting and would like to showcase your beautiful air-bnb/ house/ business and surrounding area, we would love to hear from you! Please email us or see the link below to download our host guide information pack.

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS

Hi there! I'm Kate, I am an artist, social worker and mother of three school aged children, and I live in Brisbane. I recently left my part time social work position, to commence full time art practice from my tiny but abundant home studio.

I paint using oils, and I adore painting flowers, foliage, ceramics, vessels, fabrics and fruit. I don't think I'll ever get sick of painting still life compositions! My preferred colours to use are pink, blue and green, and they feature in some combination in almost all of my work.

I exhibit my art in regional and city galleries and stores all over Australia, and my art career breakthrough moment came from the regional town of Orange, NSW, when I won the 'Jumbled Art Superstar' competition a few years ago. Last year I held my first solo exhibition at Wild Canary gallery in Brisbane.

I regularly teach art classes in my studio and my creative philosophy is this - the process is more important than the product. This means, I encourage students (and try to remind myself) to stop worrying about whether the painting is 'good', and to start focusing on the immense pleasures found of the process of creating it. I love finding flow and complete immersion in the process of painting, and enjoy showing art students how to find the same pleasure using brand new skills.

I can't wait to be offering workshops alongside my beautiful friend Emily, and we look forward to welcoming you to our fun and friendly workshops.

Hello! My name is Emily and I am a full time artist based in Brisbane, where I live with my husband, two young daughters and rescue dog. I live with my little family in a cosy 70's apartment, equipped with my very first studio!

The catalyst for leaving my job in architecture, to pursue a long-time dream of painting full time, was an incredible 6-month road trip around Australia in 2019/2020. I had the luxury of time to paint everyday, and I've never looked back.

I predominantly use acrylics to paint floral scenes, still life arrangements and the occasional landscape. I find the whole process of completing a painting very meditative, from foraging florals and foliage, arranging them to form a lovely composition, mixing beautiful colours and slowly layering loose brushstrokes until I think a piece is done.

My work can be found in regional galleries around Australia and I also sell a lot of my work directly to the collector, because I just love the story behind why someone connects with my work.

I really believe that the act of creating can bring so much joy to our lives, and that everyone has the capacity to express their own unique creativity. I hope to show you that there is really no 'correct' way to paint.

I am thrilled to be teaming up with my lovely friend Kate to invite you to our friendly workshops. They really are something special!
