Bloom Online
Since 2022, we have been bringing our bespoke, supportive, all inclusive painting workshops to unique locations around Australia. Fast forward to 2024, after many requests, Bloom is now online! Our course content has been created by translating our in-person workshops to an online format. We have two online courses on offer, oils or acrylics, covering how to paint a simple floral still life. That way, you can create from the comfort of your home, at your own pace, stopping and starting as you need.
If you've always wanted to learn how to paint, or you need a bit of encouragement after an extended creative break, you've come to the right place! We are both very passionate about exploring the process of painting and the joy it sparks and we want you to experience this too.
These courses are designed to be very beginner friendly, with lifetime access - introducing you to the core process of still life painting, that can be rewatched again and again, to create a different painting each time, using the same principles and steps. Our intention is that we have created a simple tool for you to enjoy the process of painting and build momentum and confidence to keep going.
Bloom Online is made up of easy to follow, short modules, covering everything you need to know, from materials, set up, composition, sketching, working with your medium and cleaning up at the end. The video modules are quite short (under 7 minutes each); they are intended to be easy to digest, in a way that can help you fit some creative practice in your busy schedule. Each module also contains text and still photographs, to support a variety of learning styles.
If you don't have any art supplies at home, we also offer art kits, of our preferred materials, that we hand pack and send from our studios in Brisbane.

Acrylics Course Overview
Module 1
Introduction (2:11 mins)
Meet Emily and Kate as they introduce themselves and the Bloom concept.
Module 3
Composition & Sketching (5:42 mins)
In her studio, Emily shows you how to choose the right vase, what sort of flowers are best to paint for beginners, how to create an interesting composition using design principles & how to sketch in your arrangement with pencil.
Module 5
Blocking in & Building Layers (6:35mins)
This is the longest module in the course, where Emily demonstrates how to paint your flowers & foliage. She outlines how to make the first brushstrokes and in what colour, how to layer your paint without over-blending, what order you can paint your arrangement in, some basic colour mixing ideas and tips, where you can place highlights and tips on how to keep your work painterly and loose.
Module 7
Finishing touches (1:47 mins)
You will learn some extra things you can do to make your painting 'ready to hang'. A recommended list of materials is included.
Module 2
Materials & Setup (4:54 mins)
Learn what you need to get started. Emily outlines how she sets up her space ready for painting, her favourite paint brands, surface to paint on, how to choose brushes and caring for your brushes. Included is a general list of recommended materials (and alternative options) so you can easily see that you have everything you need.
Module 4
Managing your medium (3:41mins)
Learn about the properties of acrylic paints, Emily's recommended colour list, a simple introduction to the colour wheel and an easy rule on how to lighten or darken your colours.
Module 6
Background, Table & Vase (5:01 mins)
You will learn why Emily paints her background last, how to choose a background colour, what size brushes to use, how to create interesting brush strokes, how to create a simple vase shadow, how to paint a vase with dimension, how to assess if your painting is 'done'.
Module 8
Conclusion & Thank you (2:07 mins)
Emily and Kate give you a little pep talk at the end to congratulate yourself on making it through the course!
